Mr. Ellis has authored numerous articles on appellate practice and procedure, published in legal newspapers and journals. He lectures frequently on appellate-related topics, both at large-group events and in smaller, law-firm settings. For example, his presentations at the State Bar’s Annual Meetings have included programs on effective brief writing, making an adequate record for appeal, family law set-aside motions, and statements of decisions. Mr. Ellis has also coached the external moot court competition teams at UCLA School of Law along with Judge (Ret) George P. Schiavelli. From 2000 to 2008 he was on the Board of Directors of the Law School’s Alumni Association, and he was President of that board in 2004-2005. Each year he also mentors a first-year law student as part of the school’s alumni mentoring program. Mr. Ellis has been selected as a Southern California “Superlawyer” every year since 2009.
